Politics at its lowest level

There was so much ho-halla about the editorial by Bal Thakrey, Shiv Shen supremo, in Shamna regarding Sachin Tendulkar’s comment. I still remember the exact words that Tendulkar stated-
“Mumbai belongs to India, this is how I look at it. I am a proud Maharastrian but I am an Indian first.”
I don’t see any problem in this statement, Bal thakrey has criticized his statement and advised Sachin to be away from politics. I fail to understand that from which angle it’s a political Statement. I think 98 out of 100 people will agree with this. Not only this even most of the Maharastrian has got this belief in them that they are proud Maharastrian but an Indian first.
Once the editorial appeared in the “Shamna”, the whole media and politics fraternity was in the disagreement of the comment made by Mr. Thakrey. Even MNS (Maharastra Navnirman Sena), the party that was very much in news for so called “Marathi manus” issue and in the protest of taking ministers oath in any other language than “Marathi”, was not in a position to take a risk by attacking legend like Sachin Tendulkar. Shiv Shena was in a bit of frustration on the “Maratha Manus” issue in the recent past and it has found itself in the wrong time and wrong place after attacking a legend like Sachin.
Everyone knows the integrity Sachin has been maintained during his 20 years cricketing life. As a person & professional, There are millions of people who look up to him. Attacking him in this manner, Shiv Shena has infact lost its plot and it has backfired at it only. It was criticized by almost every quarter of the people and now I think by now even the Shiv Shena must have understood that It was not right to target Sachin on this issue. The party was in isolation on the issue and its party members seemed uncomfortable while facing the media for the response as what is so wrong about the statement that Sachin has made.
I hope the entire episode will give a new dimension on the issue and hopefully Shiv Shena and MNS will look for some constructive and more important issues. There are so many other problems in Maharashtra that must be tackled first. For the time being lets fight with those first and lets not think about these issues.
